Illawarra Flame July Article - Worth the Drive

‘Where’s the Men’s Shed, Wally? “I dunno, Gladys, it was down Stanny, then up here, and now”…

Wally and Gladys are not alone. Your Helensburgh Men’s Shed has moved. From under the panel-beaters in town in 2016, then to the Anglican Hall in Stanwell Park, up the top of town in Parkes Street, we’ve been everywhere, man. And now we are The Shed in the Forest. If you drive to the end of Darkes Forest Road, you will come upon a neatly laid out collection of shipping containers and a hay shed; yes, that is the new Men’s Shed.

Of course, we couldn't be going without our generous sponsors: Helensburgh Anglican Church, the Tops Conference Centre, Peter Cox HCS, John Ingram Helensburgh Tyres, Ian Pepper REA, Peabody Energy, Equilibrium Healthcare, and Gary Laker. Thank you all.

What hasn't changed is the blokes (and ladies) enjoying a laugh, making new mates, doing interesting projects, serving our community, with great tools and machines to enjoy, an amazing range of skills to learn from, and now, a beautiful view over the bush. Birds, goannas, deer, this place has everything.

Maybe you’ve retired and are looking to do a special job. Perhaps you need a particular tool or know-how. Or you wake up and there’s…nothing to do. It happens.

Come to the Shed in the Forest and discover what sheds can offer you, and the joy of using a spokeshave. We are open to all men and women over 18 years old.
