HMS 2508 July Article

Hi everyone out there in beautiful 2508! From Helensburgh past the Tops and on to Stanny, along the plain to Darkes Forest and down the coast to Coalcliff, and even further afield to ‘The Shire’, all of us from your Men’s Shed say ‘welcome back’! We are reopening the Shed and recommencing operations Serving Our Community on Monday the 6th of July.

Your Men’s Shed is hoping to be open as soon as possible, awaiting clearance from the Men’s Shed Association and the NSW Government, and in the meantime the members have been helping out wherever they can in the community.

We are designing a cubby house for an autistic child, making games and kids toys, keeping used plywood from landfill and reimaging it into new fauna boxes, working away happily in our sheds, garages and gardens, learning new cooking techniques and keeping in touch with blokes doing it tough.

Like many local groups your Men’s Shed operations have been affected by the coronavirus health controls. But we are still ‘zooming’ into great ‘virtual’ morning tea’s, sharing our highs and lows, projects we are working on and how we are managing during these interesting times.

Some of the guys are even carrying out client’s commissions at their home workshops, we’ve been assembling fauna boxes for the South Coast wildlife carers, and certainly our homes and gardens will never look better by spring!

Some keys she shared were:

HMS to the Rescue

A little story this month, about a little Oriental-style side table, a family heirloom that had suffered water damage. Mark Bray, a new member of your Men’s Shed, brought the table along for a friend. It was in a very sorry state, with the intricately wrought table sections coming apart, the supports broken or missing and water staining throughout.

Men’s Shed Twenty-Twenty

The recent and ongoing bushfires in our beautiful country have been a sobering reminder of ‘her beauty and her terror’, visited upon people, homes, stock and wildlife. The response across Australia helping all those affected has been so wonderful. With our native animals in crisis the Shed has possum, bird and microbat nesting boxes available to anyone interested in helping out in this way.
